Executive Board
Joseph Wilhelm is an organic pioneer, activist and founder and shareholder of Rapunzel Naturkost GmbH & Co. KG. In 1974 he founded Rapunzel Naturkost together with Jennifer Vermeulen. Today, it is one of the largest producers of organic food in Germany, and Joseph Wilhelm managed the company until 2024. He is committed to organic agriculture – even beyond his time as CEO of Rapunzel, not least through the RAPUNZEL One World Organic Foundation.
Margarethe Epple is Managing Director of Rapunzel Naturkost GmbH & Co. KG. She grew up on a mountain farm in the Allgäu region and worked as a graduate engineer in food technology after completing her studies. This was followed by a second degree in business administration (VWA) and work in various sectors. With Rapunzel since 1999, she took over the management of Rapunzel Turkey in 2009, and in 2012 she also assumed joint responsibility for Rapunzel.
With her bachelor’s thesis, Rosalie Dorn designed Rapunzel Naturkost's first sustainability report. After her Master's, she worked for an international auditing firm. Since 2019, she has supported commercial management at Rapunzel. Today, as a member of the Executive Board, she is in charge of logistics and IT as well as financial accounting, controlling, process management, and sustainability.
Board of Trustees
Leonhard Wilhelm has been part of the management of Rapunzel Naturkost GmbH & Co. KG since 2019 and has been responsible for trade with purchasing and sales as well as production and technology since 2024. “I am grateful that with the foundation we have now created the possibility to sustainably support ecological and social projects on our own doorstep and above all worldwide, beyond Rapunzel's previous commitment. I would already like to thank all the people who support and publicise the foundation.”
Seraphine Wilhelm started her professional career at Rapunzel Naturkost with an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant. She then moved to New York, Boston and Berlin. Back at Rapunzel since 2018, she is now part of the management team and is responsible for the Marketing, Product Management and Quality Assurance departments as well as the organic market in Legau.
“With the foundation, we are jointly contributing to a society that is worth living in. I'm particularly passionate about people's projects that make our world greener, more diverse, more species-appropriate and fairer.”

Barbara Altmann grew up on a farm in Upper Bavaria. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, she studied agricultural sciences. Time and again, she was drawn to travel the world for work and study trips: to northern Germany, France, South America and West Africa. She has been working at Rapunzel Naturkost in Allgäu since 1998, where she is the head of sustainable supply chain management. Right from the very beginning, she has appreciated the continuous cooperation with the company's fair trade partners, in addition to the further development of the company's own fair trade programme HAND IN HAND.
Justina Wilhelm works as a freelance photographer. She also travels around for Rapunzel with her camera, where she previously did her training in marketing, and now visits the organic producer's suppliers around the world.
Meike Bauer gained her first professional experience as a member of staff at the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Constance and in the natural food retail trade in Constance. As a teacher of German literature and history, she worked at a grammar school in Friedrichshafen, at vocational schools in Ulm and Überlingen, and at a special education centre SPBZ in Constance. In Ulm, she acted as head of department for the VAB/BVJ type of school. She then expanded her work as a class and subject teacher with the corresponding additional training of several years as a counselling teacher and experiential educator. Her current home school is located on Lake Constance.
“I see our foundation’s contribution to educating and informing people as a great opportunity to make a global contribution to ecological and social development.”
